Mardi Gras Day

March 5

The Mysti Krewe of Nimbus formed to celebrate Louisiana Mardi Gras and to bring that spirit of joy to Portland. The Krewe is composed of former Louisiana residents and locals who love the music and culture of Louisiana’s Carnival celebration. Annually, the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus hosts two major Mardi Gras events: a masquerade ball and the Portland Mardi Gras Day Parade held on Fat Tuesday. The parade is a free community event on North Mississippi Avenue the evening of March 5th. During the Parade, hundreds of Portlanders revel in the streets with lighted costumes, marching music acts, a kid’s costume contest, and beads! Krewe members decorate a limited number of mini umbrellas, which have become highly collectible treasures of festive Mardi Gras whimsy.
